The Blue Lagoon is the single most popular split boat tour — and for good reason. Shallow turquoise water, sandy bottom, sheltered bay, only 30-45 minutes from Split harbor. This guide tells you everything you need to know to pick the right boat tour from Split and make the most of your day.
The Blue Lagoon (locally known as Krknjaši Bay) sits between two small islands — Veli Krknjaš and Mali Krknjaš — just off the coast of Šolta Island, near the village of Drvenik Veli. It's a natural shallow bay with sandy bottom, and the combination of white sand and shallow depth creates the famous turquoise color you've seen in photos.
Unlike the Blue Cave (which is a tiny sea cave on Biševo Island, 2+ hours from Split), the Blue Lagoon is a swimmable bay you can spend hours in. The water is calm, warm, and protected from waves. You can swim, snorkel, paddle around, or just float — and the bottom is shallow enough that even non-swimmers feel safe.
It's accessible only by boat — there's no road, no parking lot, no crowds of day-trippers from buses. That's exactly why it stays beautiful. Tour boats from Split are the easiest way to get there.
Sandy bottom, shallow enough that the light bounces back up through the water. On calm mornings you can see down 15 metres.
Shallow, no current, no waves, nothing sharp underfoot — children can stand and play. It's the bay we send guests with small kids to first.
Not 2-3 hours like the Blue Cave run. More time in the water, less time bouncing across open sea. Half-day tour gets you back to Split by early afternoon.
Sand in the middle, rocky reefs around the edges — that's where the fish and sea urchins are. Masks are on board, bring your own if you prefer.
Each tour stops at the lagoon plus two or three other spots on Šolta or the nearby islands.

Meet at Split harbor 15 minutes before departure. Most tours leave between 9 and 10 AM to maximize time in the water and beat the afternoon wind.
Calm, scenic boat ride from Split to Krknjaši. The water gets bluer as you approach. You'll want your camera ready.
We drop anchor inside the bay. Jump in, swim across to Veli Krknjaš, snorkel along the rocks. Masks and snorkels on board, plus drinks and a small snack.
Full-day tours include a stop at Maslinica or Nečujam on Šolta Island for a traditional Dalmatian lunch — fresh fish, grilled meat, local wine.
Back at Split harbour in time for an evening walk on the Riva or dinner in the old town.
Group tours from Split typically cost €60-90 per person for a half-day, or €90-130 per person for a full-day with lunch included. The price difference comes from the boat type, group size, and what's included (snorkeling gear, drinks, food).
Private charters start around €399 for a half-day on a small boat (up to 8 people) and go up to €1500+ for luxury yachts. For groups of 4 or more, a private charter can actually work out cheaper per person than a group tour — and you control the whole day.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. If the wind picks up and we have to cancel, you reschedule or get a full refund — our call, not yours.
The Blue Lagoon is best from late May to early October. June and September are ideal — warm water (22-25°C), fewer boats in the bay, and that perfect turquoise color at its most intense. July and August are peak season: the water is warmest (25-27°C) but you'll share the lagoon with more tour boats, especially between 11 AM and 2 PM.
For the quietest experience, book an early-morning departure (9 AM) or a full-day tour that reaches the Blue Lagoon before the midday rush. Our captains know the timing and will position the boat for the best swimming spot. On private charters, you can arrive before anyone else and have the lagoon nearly to yourself.
Bring waterproof phone cases — you'll want underwater photos in that turquoise water. The visibility is incredible, especially in the morning before boats stir up the sand. If you're snorkeling, head to the rocky edges of the bay where small fish, starfish, and sea urchins congregate. The center is sandy and shallow (great for floating), but the edges are where the underwater life is.
Don't skip lunch on Šolta. The konobas in Maslinica grill whatever came in that morning, with local olive oil and island wine. Ask the captain which place is good that day — they know who's cooking and who isn't.
We've taken thousands of travelers to the Blue Lagoon on our split boat tours over the years. Local captains who grew up on these waters, verified operators we'd put our own family on, and a relentless focus on making your day as good as it can be.
